OUR HISTORY
Historical origins of Pacific Bean Villages
Pacific Bean Villages was founded in 2021 to support rural conservation communities in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, Papua New Guinea. The communities we work with are preserving critical ecosystems and endangered fauna endemic to the island of Bougainville and the rest of the Solomon Island archipelago ecoregion.
Pacific Bean Villages was created as a market platform to link farmers and international markets as a way to encourage the coexistence of biodiversity conservation and sustainable economic activities for rural communities in PNG. Many communities depend on the forests for their sustenance, but there is constant and mounting pressure for large-scale extraction of their natural resources, particularly forests, which are home to many under-explored native fauna and flora.
Our community level conservation and sustainable development program is run through the Kainake Project.
